CTIS310 - Semester Internship

CTIS310 Rules

  1. This is a 10-credit internship course.
  2. Cannot be taken in the last semester. i.e., you need to study at least one semester after your Semester Internship.
  3. Time: You can perform Semester Internship in 3rd curriculum year. If you started CTIS in a Fall then you can perform Semester Internship earliest in the 6th semester. If you started CTIS in a Spring then you can perform Semester Internship earliest in the 5th semester.
  4. Duration: One whole academic semester (14 weeks).
  5. Requirements: You should satisfy all of the following req.s in order to be eligible for 310:
    1. 290 is the prerequisite for this course; i.e., you should have a “S”atisfactory grade from 290.
    2. Your CGPA should be 1.80 or above.
    3. Number of departmental (CTIS-coded) courses belonging to the first five curriculum semesters, which you did not successfully complete yet, should be maximum 4. If this number is 5 then you can enroll to one of these courses during Semester Internship. If this number is >=6 then your Semester Internship is delayed to the next semester.
    4. For regular students who go on ERASMUS during the first semester (FALL) of their 3rd year and are unable to find equivalent courses for the 3rd-year FALL CTIS curriculum abroad, but instead take 4th-year technical electives (IS Electives), the number of these IS Electives will be deducted from the number of remaining CTIS-coded courses from the first five semesters.
      Example:
If a student has 7 remaining CTIS courses from the first five semesters and completes 4 IS Electives during Erasmus, then the student will be considered to have 7 – 4 = 3 remaining CTIS coded courses. In this case, the student becomes eligible to take CTIS310 Internship (provided that the summer internship prerequisite has been satisfied). If, after this calculation, the student still has 5 remaining CTIS coded courses, then the student must complete the semester internship in Ankara while also taking one of the remaining CTIS coded courses during the internship semester.
    5. Similarly, for regular students who plan to go on Erasmus during the second semester (SPRING) of their 3rd year, in order to avoid delaying graduation, the department allows these students to complete their semester internship during the 3rd-year FALL semester (provided that they have already completed the summer internship prerequisite).
  6. Assessment tools are follow-up reports, mid-semester interview, internship report, supervisor feedback and CTIS-jury evaluation.
Important Note: Bilkent regulation: Remote/online internships can be allowed based on the following requirements:
  7. At least 50% of employees on similar posts should be working remotely/online at the company/institution.
  8. Students must spend at least 20% of their time in person.
